Kristina Annerino LCPC,CADC,CAMS-II

(she/her pronouns) “It’s okay to NOT be okay” Giving yourself permission to not be okay can be one of the hardest things you can do for yourself as individual and finding a safe place to do that can also be overwhelming. Kristina’s approach to therapy is to create a safe space to build a therapeutic alliance where the client can explore and create goals. She uses evidenced based approaches, trauma informed treatment practices, motivational interviewing, client centered, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Kristina believes the client is able to reach their true self; they just need guidance and the tools to do so.

Kristina is a licensed clinical professional counselor, certified alcohol/drug counselor and a certified anger management specialist. Kristina received her Bachelors of Arts in Criminal Social Justice and Psychology from Lewis University in 2010. Kristina started as an addiction counselor immediately following her education, as she worked in outpatient and residential facilities with a variety of populations.

While Kristina worked toward her Master’s degree she became a certified DUI counselor and worked with women impacted by domestic violence/ sexual assault and addiction. She earned her Masters of Arts in Counseling from Lewis University in 2014. She is currently an educator at Moraine Valley in the Addiction Studies department, focusing her work on cultural competency in counseling.

Recently Kristina was accepted into University of the Cumberlands’  PhD Counselor Education and Supervision Program and is working toward her certification in hypnotherapy to treat adults and children impacted by trauma and individual having concerns meeting their goals with traditional talk therapy. 

Kristina has 9 years of experience with adolescents, adults, couples/families, and first responders. She has experience with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, addiction, domestic violence, sexual assault, women’s issues, anger management, stress management, adjustment disorders, mood disorders, couples’ issues, PTSD and other trauma related disorders. Kristina has completed LGBTQ+ Clients: Queer Affirmative Strategies to Address Sexual and Gender Identity training.
